Students attempt dodgeball world record

March 1, 2011

Writer: Writer: Lane Stevenson

Brigham Young University-Idaho will attempt to set a world record for the most players in a single dodgeball game on March 12. Event coordinators are hoping for 3,000 students, divided into two teams.

The BYU-Idaho Center's multi-purpose facility has the capacity to hold 5,000 students on its 10 basketball courts, with plenty of room to spare. There are 70 volunteers to facilitate responsibilities such as helping out with people management, first aid and judging.

The actual number of dodgeballs that will be ordered for this event will be 60% of the number preregistered by March 2. It is anticipated that 900 seven-inch dodgeballs will be used. "I believe that these types of events build unity and help to create a sense of legacy for the students involved," said Chris Luke, event coordinator. "This is an opportunity for students to gather together and have fun while making history."

The dodgeball match will start at 1 p.m., March 12, in the BYU-Idaho Center. Tickets are $1 for BYU-Idaho student participants and free for spectators. Tickets may be ordered by phone at 496-2230 or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.
