Wireless (WiFi) Setup 

We know having access to WiFI is critical to your success as a student at Brigham Young University - Idaho. Whether you are on a Windows or a Mac computer, setting up your WiFi is just a few steps away. Take a look at our basic step-by-step tutorials below. 

NOTE: You will not need to do this every time you want to access WiFi on the BYU-Idaho campus. This is just for the first time you connect your computer to campus WiFi.

Windows Wireless Setup

Windows 10 Wireless Setup

  1.  Access your computer's system tray and click the "Network" icon.
  2.  Select the "BYUI" network. 

NOTE: Make sure you've selected the "Connect automatically" option so that this network will always be available to you from now on.     

3. Click "Connect." 

Windows XP Wireless Setup

  1.  Double-click the wireless icon in the lower right-hand corner.
  2. Click on "Change Advanced Settings."
  3.  A new window will open. Click the "Wireless Networks" tab.
  4.  Click on the "Add..." button.
  5.  A form will appear. Fill it out like this:

* Type "BYUI" in the "Network Name" box.

* Use the "WPA2" option in the "Network Authentication" box. If you don't have that option, use "WPA."

6. Click "Authentication."

7. Change the EAP type to "PEAP."

8. Click "Properties."

9. Click "Configure." There will be a box that pops up with a checked box in it.  Uncheck the box.

10. Click "OK" on every open window.

11. Once you've clicked "OK" on all the boxes, wait a few seconds and a bubble will appear in the lower right-hand corner of the page.

12. Fill out the form using your Net-ID. Your Net-ID is the same username you use to log into BYU-Idaho's website to check your account, register for classes, log into I-Learn and myBYUI etc. Use the same password you use to log into www.byui.edu.

13. Enter your BYU-Idaho login credentials in their respective boxes. Leave the domain blank. Leave the "Logon domain" blank.

14. Once you've entered your username (Net-ID) and password, a bubble will appear in the lower right again. Click it.

15. Click "OK." Your wireless should now work.

Windows Vista Wireless Setup

  1.  Click the "Start" button.
  2.  Click "Connect to."
  3.  Choose the "BYUI" network.
  4.  Click "Connect."

Mac Wireless Setup 

Mac OSX Wireless Setup (Using AirPort)

 If your Mac has Mac OS X Snow Leopard:

  1.  Click the Apple logo in the top-left-hand corner of your screen.
  2.  Select "System Preferences..." from the drop-down menu. This will open the "System Preferences" window.

3. Click "Network" in the "System Preferences" window.

4. Click "AirPort" in the left-hand column of the screen.

5. Locate the "Network Name" drop-down menu, click it, and choose the "BYUI" wireless network.

6. A prompt will pop up asking you to enter a WiFi network password. Enter your myBYUI password, then click "OK."

NOTE: Click the box next to "Remember this network" in order to save BYUI network's information. That way,  you will be able to connect automatically the next time you want to access BYU-Idaho's WiFi. 

7. Click "Apply."

 If your Mac has Mac OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or El Capitan:

  1.  Click the Apple logo in the top-left-hand corner of your screen.
  2.  Select "System Preferences..." from the drop-down menu. This will open the "System Preferences" window.

3.  Click "Network" in the "System Preferences" window.

4. Click "Wi-Fi" in the left-hand column of the screen.

5. Locate the "Network Name" drop-down menu, click it, and choose the "BYUI" wireless network.

6. A prompt will pop up asking you to enter a WiFi network password. Enter your myBYUI password, then click "OK."

NOTE: Click the box next to "Remember this network" in order to save the BYUI network's information. That  way, you will be able to connect automatically the next time you want to access BYU-Idaho's WiFi.

7. At the next popup, enter your Mac's login information - NOT your myBYUI login information. Once this is complete, you should be able to access BYU-Idaho's WiFi.

8. Click "Apply."

Mac OSX Wireless Setup (Using the Wi-Fi Icon)

If your Mac has Mac OS X Snow Leopard:

  1.  Click the Wi-Fi icon in the top-right-hand corner of your screen.
  2.  A drop-down menu will appear listing all available Wi-Fi networks. Choose "BYUI."
  3.  A prompt will pop up asking you to enter a WiFi network password. Enter your myBYUI password, then click "OK."

NOTE: Click the box next to "Remember this network" in order to save the BYU-Idaho network's information. That way, you will be able to connect automatically the next time you want to access BYU-Idaho's WiFi.

If your Mac has Mac OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or El Capitan:

  1.  Click the Wi-Fi icon in the top-right-hand corner of your screen.
  2. A drop-down menu will appear listing all available Wi-Fi networks. Choose "BYUI."

4. You will receive a certification popup. Click "Continue."

5. At the next popup, enter your Mac's login information - NOT your myBYUI login information. Once this is complete, you should be able to access BYU-Idaho's WiFi.
