Hiring a Student Employee

1. Create a “Job Requisition” in the Workday system.

     Follow these instructions:


a)     After creating the “Job Requisition” in Workday, you will need to go to the BYU-Idaho Student Employment website to post the job and/or hire the student. (The Student Employment website is located at

b)     If you want the job posted on the Student Employment website for students to view, be sure to input the appropriate posting and hiring dates, and check the box entitled, “Display on Job Board”. 

2. Once you determine who you want to hire, go to the Student Employment website ( and click on the “Manage Job Postings” then the “Applicant” tabs and actually hire the student you want. From there, the Workday system will send instructions to the student on what to do next (i.e. fill out I9 and W4 information). After the student is finished inputting their information, they will be instructed to bring their ID to the HR office. After this is complete, they will be able to clock-in and start working.

* Students who have worked on campus within the past three years have already completed employment paperwork and can begin work immediately.

Also, the Employment of Relatives policy RESTRICTS NEAR-RELATIVES FROM WORKING IN THE SAME DEPARTMENT, or in close proximity to, one another. Do not proceed with this hire if such a relationship exists. Job offers are not final without approval from Human Resources.
