In Workday, fill out the HEA Reimbursement Form to submit a request.

Benefits of Higher Education Assistance

Brigham Young University-Idaho supports the professional growth and development of employees. The Higher Education Assistance program (HEA) allows eligible staff and administrative employees (.75 to 1 FTE) to seek reimbursement for qualified educational expenses (tuition and fees) incurred for a first master’s degree from an accredited institution.

Procedures

Employees should use their BYU-Idaho tuition waiver benefit (explained in Policy 2-7: Tuition Benefits) for undergraduate courses.

Application and Approval Process:

Employees with one year of service are welcome to apply for the Higher Education Assistance (HEA) program by submitting a one-time application. (Please click on the "Application" button at the top of the page.)

  • Requests are approved on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Human Resources will maintain a waitlist for any applications not approved in the current year.

Higher Education Assistance is provided as follows:

The yearly benefit limit for individual employees is $5,250, contingent upon completion of each course or term. Employees are eligible to participate for a maximum of two calendar years while pursuing their degree.

Participation Requirements:

  1. Staff and administrative employees are welcome to apply for Higher Education Assistance after one year of BYU-Idaho service.
  2. Eligible employees may only receive tuition assistance for a first master’s degree. If an employee is seeking their second master’s degree, they will not be eligible to participate in the HEA program.

Return of Funds:

In the event an overpayment occurs, the employee is responsible for returning the funds to the university.

Reimbursement Process

To receive reimbursement, please submit the following forms to Human Resources:

  • Reimbursement Request Form
  • Unofficial transcript, showing courses have been completed and passed for a given semester.
  • A financial statement indicating proof of actual tuition costs being paid for by the participant.

Once these three items have been submitted, it can take up to two business days for the reimbursement to be processed.
