Janiel Nelson

Janiel Nelsonn

Biography

Dr. Janiel Nelson received both her B.A in Business and Home Economics Education and M. Ed. in Occupational Training and Resource Management from Idaho State University. She received her Ed. S. in Adult Education from the University of Idaho. She has also completed a Certification in Color Consulting from the International Association of Color Consultants as well as gaining a Personal and Family Finance Certification with American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. Nelson is currently in the process of becoming a certified family life educator with the National Council on Family Relations.

Prior to coming to BYU-Idaho in 2000, Nelson taught at Idaho State University for three years. At the moment she teaches Home and Family Management, Money Management, and a practicum course for the Family and Consumer Sciences major in the Department of Home and Family.

For the community, Nelson offers free “management” counseling as a service from BYU-Idaho to interested individuals and families and uses those experiences as teaching tools in the classroom. She also serves as a guest speaker for Relief Society meetings teaching home and family skills. Though her leadership callings in the church are numerous, Nelson is currently serving as the ward organist.

In her spare time, she enjoys making cards, collecting quotes, reading biographies, and listening to uplifting music. She and her husband, Jim, are the parents for four children (three girls, one boy) and the grandparents of seven (three boys and four girls). Nelson and her husband both agree that grandchildren are the blessing you receive after raising your own children. They enjoy watching movies, riding 4-wheelers, fishing, and just being at home with their family.
