Biography

Gaylynn Owen Bean was the third child born to Tom and Gayle Owen in American Falls, Idaho. She was raised in Aberdeen, Idaho and graduated from Aberdeen High School as the valedictorian. She has lived in Rexburg for the past 15 years with her husband Brent and their five children: Brennan age 22, Devin age 21, Jaren age 18, Amree age 15, and Rylan age 11. Bean treasures her opportunity to be a mother and has really enjoyed being a “Missionary Mom” as Brennan served in the Toronto, Canada mission 2010-2012 and Devin served in the Missouri, St. Louis mission 2011-2013. Jaren is preparing to serve in December 2013.

Bean earned an associate’s degree from Ricks College in 1989. She married Brent Whiting Bean in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 16, 1989. Bean graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education from Utah State University in 1991, where she was recognized as the Outstanding Student in the College of Education.

She has taught piano for 21 years and currently enjoys her opportunity to play the organ regularly in the Rexburg Temple. Bean has served as a Relief Society president, counselor in a Young Women presidency, stake Primary President, Primary chorister, nursery leader, girls camp director, and is currently serving as the ward organist and CTR 7 teacher in the Salem first ward.

Bean enjoys gardening, canning, exercising, hiking, kayaking, reading, listening to her husband and children sing, camping, and spending time with her family and friends. She began teaching as an adjunct professor at BYU-Idaho in 2006 and has enjoyed her opportunity to teach Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, and Communication Essentials.
