Taught by Ross Baron
|Friday, August 2||3 p.m.||Taylor Chapel|
Ross Baron was born and raised in southern California. He joined the Church at 18 and served in the Argentina, Buenos Aires South Mission, which was divided. Baron then served the remainder of his mission in the Argentina, Bahia Blanca Mission. When he returned home, he met, fell in love with, and married Kathleen Ann Bolton in the Los Angeles Temple.
Ross and Kathleen have seven children (five boys and two girls), six grandchildren, and two more on the way.
Baron received a bachelor's degree from BYU in Finance, a master's degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California in Religion and Social Ethics.
He was involved in business and entrepreneurship before working as a full-time LDS Institute director and CES Coordinator at the Glendora and Claremont Institutes. After twelve years, Baron came to teach at BYU-Idaho in 2005.
Baron loves to teach and to learn. For him, there is nothing so exciting as being in a classroom with students who are anxious, bright, and ready to learn by study and by faith.
Some of the unique experiences Baron has enjoyed in his life include:
-Swimming across the San Francisco Bay for the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon.
-Winning a stove, a mop, and a barrel sauna on The Price is Right.
-Being a guest on the History Channel to represent the Church.
-Playing the drums with a group of Institute students at L.A.’s Hard Rock Café.
-Participating in a radio show in southern California where callers could ask any question about the Church.
-Playing the drums at Guitars Unplugged in Fall Semester 2005 and Winter Semester 2006 (His group made it to the "Best of" both semesters).
-Speaking at Christian colleges and universities on the Church.
-Playing chess in the US Open Tournament in 1991 in Los Angeles (His first match was against Arnold Denker who had previously beat Bobby Fisher...he worked Ross!).
-Leading six community firesides about the Church where thousands attended. This is featured on the website fairlds.org
The Old Testament is a book about Christ and has as one of its main purposes pointing our souls to Him. This class will look at various events in the Old Testament like the fall and the Exodus to illustrate the rich and deep symbolism that teaches about Christ, his nature, character, attributes and teachings.
